The CCSR established a scholarship program in 2010 to mark the fortieth anniversary of its incorporation. The purpose of the scholarships was to enable advanced doctoral students and unemployed or underemployed graduates in the field of Religious Studies or Theology to conduct research and/or travel to conduct research that will contribute to their active research project and assist in building their research portfolio (e.g., research tools, necessary digital and print materials, research software, travel to archives, libraries, research centres, fieldwork locations).
Beginning in 2026, the Corporation is pleased to announce the establishment of a new CCSR Doctoral Fellowship Program in the amount of $10,000 to support one successful PhD candidate. Our goal is to promote and mentor a doctoral student at the dissertation stage.
The scholarships are open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada and students on a study permit studying in Canada. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be:
- a member of one of the constituent societies of the CCSR
- enrolled in a doctoral program and studying an aspect of religious studies or theology
- have successfully completed their comprehensive or major/minor field examinations
- have a thesis proposal that has been approved by their department or doctoral committee
